The Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mr. Mukesh Ambani, lately expressed his gladness while announcing the launch Reliance Jio’s 4G data services, its expansion and other highlights referring to the company’s vision for ‘Digital India’. At the company’s 42nd annual general meeting (AGM), Mukesh Ambani declared the release of Reliance 4G data recharge plans that are designed to bring about a revolutionary change in the high speed data market and also set a stepping stone for the company to grow in terms of subscriber base.
Company’s Mission in Introducing 4G services (Reliance 4G Data Top-up Plans)
In the meeting it was revealed that the launch of Reliance 4G services was dedicated towards ‘Digital India’ which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision campaign aimed to ensure that Government services are available to the country’s citizens electronically. The operator also declared that amongst 230 countries, India ranked 155th in mobile broadband internet access and by the launch of Jio, the country will be positioned in the top 10. With the issue of cheapest data plans in the world, Reliance Jio seeks to transform the high price data market of Indian to the lowest price data market. Basically this move is to ensure highest quality and quantity of data access to Indians at affordable prices.
Reliance Jio offers
As per the announcement Jio services will be offering data at the cost of INR 50 per GB which makes it the lowest cost in the world. The company is also bringing out LYF 4G LTE smartphones which seem to be starting at a price of INR 2,999. As per the plans, Reliance customers will have to pay either for voice or data as voice calls will be free. Up to 31 December 2017, the operator has a complimentary offer for its Jio app which costs INR 15,000 for an annual subscription. Jio’s plans start from INR 19 for the occasional data user, INR 149 for light data users and so on up to INR 4,999. Compared to the ideal market data rate of INR 250 / GB, Jio’s plans will be 5 to 10 times lower at INR 25-50/GB. In one of the claims made by Ambani, it was mentioned that these are the lowest data rates anywhere in the world. “Jio makes India the highest quality, most affordable data market in the world”, added Ambani.
Network Coverage and Connectivity
In the announcements it was also mentioned that Jio’s existing 4G network already covers 18,000 cities and towns, and above two lakh villages. It is estimated by the operator that by March 2017, the company will cover 90 per cent of India’s population.
